Guidelines for JUMPSTART Grants

  • Grants to INDIVIDUAL ATHLETES are designed to support children whose sport opportunities are financially limited.
  • Children between 4-18 years of age.
  • Grants have an annual cap per year, per child, however there is an opportunity to fund for successive seasons (i.e. swimming lessons).
  • Maximum support is for one activity per child, per calendar year.
  • Funding can be used to cover registration fees, equipment costs and ransportation costs.

Note: KidSport and the Canadian Tire Jumpstart programs will not provide reimbursements for registration, equipment or transportation costs already paid by (or on behalf of) a family.

How the Process Works

  • An adult applicant initiates the application on behal of a child.
  • The adult applicant completes parts 1, 2 and 3 of the application form.
  • The adult then forwards the application to the ADJUDICATOR who is familiar with the applicant's financial situation. The adjudicator must be a professionalin the community, i.e. pricipal, counsellor, social worker, banker, clergy, RCMP, lawyer.
  • Once the application is complete, it must be submitted to KidSport (see below).
  • Coaches, directors of clubs, coworkers, or family members are not accepted as adjudicators.
  • Upon approval, a voucher with the child's name wil be forwarded to the sport organization.
  • The adult applicant will be contacted to advise them of the status of the application.
  • The adjudicator must agree to paticipate in this process and a brief telephone follow-up as required.
